Project Title: ‘Olinda’

Summary:
Bruno Palma’s project is a short animated film called ‘Olinda’, which uses an unusual storytelling style– one that differs from the traditional straightforward narrative. Through the use of visual metaphors, Bruno tells a story where meanings merge and narratives can develop within the narrative.

Project Title: ‘Pashli – Make A Difference’

One of the main aims of this project was to rebrand Pashli – a charity working in Belarus. During Christmas of 2009, the team travelled to Belarus to film a series of web shorts on the work Pashli does there. A website was built, www.pashli.org, on which the short films could be viewed and a new logo for Pashli was also created by the students as part of the rebrand. An important element of the web shorts is the original soundtrack, which was recorded in DCU.

Katrine Westum, Third Year Interior Architecture student at Griffith College, Dublin.
Project Title:
‘Greenlife – Office for Sustainable Design’.

Katrine, who is originally from Norway, focused on the interior design aspects of the renovation of an old building in Oslo into new office space for the Office for Sustainable Design. The concept for her project was ‘green invasion’: her designs were planned so that sustainable and environmentally-friendly design elements would ‘take over’ or have precedence in the renovated building.

Winner: Stefan Paz Berrios is a recent graduate of the MA in Digital Media Technology at DIT, Aungier Street. Stefan has been involved in interactive media for about 10 years, and is currently working on developing a multi-touch system.
Project Title: ‘i-Discover’

‘i-Discover’ is an Adobe Flash project, designed to teach children between the ages of four and six about the solar system, its planets, their relations with each other and their compositions. It operates as an interactive installation, utilising pressure mats, a projector, a Nintedo Wii remote control and an LED pen which sets it free from the confinements of a regular desktop environment (computer, mouse, keyboard).

Winner: Edel Flynn, Fourth Year BA Hons Visual Communications student at Athlone Institute of Technology.
Project Title: ‘Shake in the City’

Edel Flynn used digital media technologies to produce the design for a book aimed at making the work of William Shakespeare more accessible to a contemporary urban audience. Since many people struggle to read Shakespeare’s plays, Edel wanted to create a book that would encourage and assist readers.
