CTVR event in Science Gallery
Date: 17th February 2011
Time: 6pm
Venue: Science Gallery, Trinity College, Pearse St, Dublin 2
CTVR and Hugh Campbell, Professor of Architecture UCD, invite you to join us to generate a lively discussion about contemporary understanding of communication and design, particularly questioning how we communicate complexity, and how we design for communication.
Taking as our inspiration the work ofCharles & Ray Eames, CTVR presents a cinema-style screening of the 23 min film A Communications Primer (1953), introduced by Linda Doyle & Jessica Foley, followed by an Illustrated Lecture presented by Hugh Campbell, which will explore the design thinking of the Eames’, using A Communications Primer as a starting point.
A Communications Primer is particularly important for the way that it articulates an extraordinary insight into contemporary telecommunications, illustrating powerful concepts that remain important to the work of engineers and designers today. This film is relevant to anyone who uses information and communications technology in their day-to-day lives, whether professionally or otherwise.
CTVR is Ireland's largest telecommunications research centre. The centre focuses on industry-informed research in the wireless and optical domains. CTVR is headquarted in Trinity College Dublin (TCD). The National University of Ireland, Maynooth (NUIM), Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Dublin City University (DCU), Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork (UCC) and the University of Limerick (UL) are all involved. We currently have seven industry partners namely Bell Labs Ireland, Xilinx Research Labs, M/A COM, NXP, Socowave Ltd, eircom Meteor and Intune Networks. The core funding for CTVR comes from the Science Foundation of Ireland (SFI). CTVR has a strong commitment to education and outreach. The Eames Project is part of our current education and outreach programme and this illustrated lecture is one of a series of events.
