About: Toine Horvers is a Dutch performance artist who works with language in both written and spoken form. He uses language to disseminate other realities for it to become a gesture in space and time. The material for the works is derived from language that is used for recording and describing, based on observations of situations and processes in daily life. These recordings are presented in voice performances - solo or group, hand-written drawings, hand-written books, sound installations and interactive electronic text-displays in public or semi-public spaces.
Some of Toine Horvers recent performances include a contribution to the on-line artists initiative Squid project, Helsinki, Finland; Phoebus Gallery Rotterdam, The Netherlands; a participational project in Havana, Cuba as part of the Biennal of Havana; a performance/sound installation in Galeria ON, Poznan, Poland; a drawing project in Kentler International Drawing gallery New-York. His written books were exhibited at van Abbe museum, Eindhoven, The Netherlands and at Christoph Daviet, publisher of artists editions, Paris, France.
He is currently artist in residence at The Red Stables Studios, Dublin. Toine Horvers is the curator of Sub-Urban Video Lounge, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, where he lives.
